National Museum of the USAF

The Nation Museum of the United States Air Force near Dayton, OH is a fantastic facility! I highly recommend it to anyone interested in aviation. Admission and parking is free. The museum claims to be the largest of its kind, and I believe it!

I was able to visit twice since I had pilot training for a regional airline at the Dayton International Airport (DAY). The first visit was during initial training and then about a year later while in upgrade training. Even with two trips, I wonder if I even scratched the surface of what is available to see.

Remember that the museum is a bit far from the Dayton International Airport in Vandalia, OH. It’s on the other side of town at Wright-Patterson. Even from downtown Dayton, it is a drive.

Due to the distance and the museum’s size, it may not be a place to visit if you have just a few hours of free time. During both visits, I had the whole day off and a rental car.

Also, be prepared to walk. From the museum parking lot to the entrance is far, and then the facility is enormous.
